doree: I’m such a sucker for a how-to-drive-cross-country-with-your-dog story. [WaPo] Cute story.  I can’t recommend a MAJOR road trip enough.  6 years ago this summer I drove from Seattle down to LA, across to Austin and NOLA, then up to Chicago before ending in Detroit.  Vegas to Austin in one stretch — 24 hours of driving.  We slept with friends, in motels, in parking lots (in a tent), and saw amazing parts of this country.  We still talk about the Vegas to Austin stretch.
